Does it pay to be ignorant?
We must all be ignorant, because in Ephesians
5:14-17 the apostle Paul tells us to "stop being stupid, but find out
what the will of God is for our lives. How
do we gain wisdom? Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, tells us
that the first thing we need to do is to learn how to respect the
Lord. 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools
despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7) The word 'fear' does
not mean to be afraid of Him, but rather to have respect for the Lord.
What is wisdom? It is the application of
Bible Doctrine to our everyday experiences.
What is Bible Doctrine? The word means
'teaching'; therefore, it is the application of the Word of God that
we have learned, understood, believed and digested. |

Solomon says as a person begins to have some
understanding of God's Word, he will want to know more about Him, but
a foolish person feeds on foolishness. (Proverbs 15:14)
Proverbs 17:27 & 28 encourages us to learn to be a good listener, and
when we do, people will consider us to be a person who has
understanding.
Why is it to our benefit to learn and apply God's Word?
Because, when we do that on a regular daily basis, we will be able to
make wise decisions as we grow older. (Proverbs 19:20)
